| Q: |
Tell us about you. |
| A: |
I am Joanne Barry, an almost 53 year
old physical therapist working full-time in my own office with a
somewhat condensed work schedule this summer to accommodate golf. |
|
|
| Q: |
How long have you played golf? |
| A: |
I began "playing" golf 7 years ago
although I didn't consider keeping score for the first 1 1/2
years. |
| |
|
|
Q: |
How did you start and why do you play
golf? |
|
A: |
I decided to begin the process
of learning golf as I entered middle age. I wanted to be as
prepared as possible for my senior years. I became fully committed
after playing 9 holes with my 78 year old aunt and 10 and 12 year
old nephews. I play golf in a league
at Drumlins East but my first venture into league play was at
Drumlins West. I play 9 holes for fun, as often as possible with
my husband, friends, family, strangers, or alone. |
| |
|
| Q: |
Why do you take lessons? |
| A: |
To me a lot about golfing is
counterintuitive. I can't imagine what I'd be doing without
intermittent instruction and correction. |
| |
|
|
Q: |
What is the best part
of your game? |
|
A: |
The best part of my game can be
anything - it just never seems to be the best part two days in a
row! |
|
|
|
Q: |
What is the worst part
of your game? |
|
A: |
The variability in my game almost puts
me over the edge sometimes. How can it be that a great shot is so
quickly followed by one that is totally embarrassing? |
| |
|
|
Q: |
Who do you enjoy playing golf with? |
|
A: |
I play 9 holes with my husband, Rich
Roth, regularly and since he understands "the rule" regarding
unsolicited advice, we are very compatible. I have a few more
laughs though with my friend Louise Lantzy. |
|
|
| Q: |
What's in your golf bag? |
| A: |
I have Calloway woods (Great Big
Bertha, 5,7 & 9; Wilson irons 5 through pitching wedge; Cleveland
sand and gap wedges, and a Ping putter. I want new irons - isn't
that the way it is with golf gear? |
| |
|
|
Q: |
What was your most
memorable golf round? |
|
A: |
My best shot was on #15 at Woodcrest
in Manlius where I got a hole-in-one last September. |
| |
|
|
Q: |
What is your favorite golf hole? |
|
A: |
I am not too discriminating with
regard to golf courses- they all look pretty good to me and
present adequate challenges. Any hole I par is my favorite hole. |
|
|
 |
|
Q: |
Who is your favorite
golfer? |
|
A: |
Believe it or not we don't have cable TV
so I don't watch much professional golf and don't have a true
favorite. To me they are all impressive- even when they have lousy
shots. |
| |
|
| Q: |
How
long have you worked with Linda? |
| A: |
I started taking lessons from Linda 7
years ago and I was a complete blank slate. My intention is to
continue with lessons until I'm consistently shooting in the low
40s. Looks like I'll be at it for awhile. |
| |
|
|
Q: |
What was your favorite
golf lesson? |
|
A: |
Every lesson is my favorite one
because I always learn something. Unfortunately I seem to do worse
for a little bit after a lesson but eventually it comes together. |
| |
|
|
Q: |
What interests do you
have besides golf? |
|
A: |
Besides golfing, I spend a lot of time
running. I run/jog between 40 - 50 miles weekly, outside year
round, and have since the 1970s. I'm also an avid gardener but
that endeavor has been put on a back burner while I work on my
golf game. Too bad I have to work! |
