Gary Mazurkowitz

October 2002
Student of the Month

Read Gary's answers to our interview questions:

  Q: Tell us about you.
A: I am an Architect working in Real Estate development, Design-Build and Construction Management

Q: How long have you played golf?
  A: Five years seriously

Q: What made you begin to play golf and why do you continue to play?
A: My first job, at age 15, was as a caddy at the North Hills Country Club on Long Island.I enjoyed playing in my teens but did not play much until I relocated to Syracuse. Golf is a great "common denominator" and a life sport.Handicaps allow you to play with the best and those that are trying to be!Both on an equal footing.

Q: Why do you take lessons?
A: Lessons allow me to continue to refine my game, improve my swing and ultimately be the best that I can be!

Q: What do you enjoy most about golf?
A: The walk and time spent with friends.

Q: What is the best part of your game?
  A: Chipping

Q: What is the worst part of your game?
A: Accuracy

Q: Who do you enjoy playing golf with?
  A: Female: My wife Donna
Male: My good buddies Mike Calo and
Wayne Jinske

Q: Why do you take lessons? What are you trying to improve?
A: The overall "feel" of a good swing.

Q: What's in your golf bag?
A: Callaway GBB titanium irons w/graphite shafts (4 wedges).Cobra Driver, HawkEye Fairway Woods. The 5 iron is the charm!

Q: What was your most memorable golf round?
A: Years ago,the first time I played Radison I was intimidated by the width of the fairways! Narrower than a strip of bacon. I left my woods in the bag and played the round with my irons. It was a new game! I shot 10 strokes under my normal score.

Q: What is your favorite golf hole?
A: The 18th at The Cavalry Club

Q: Who is your favorite golfer?
  A:  Fred Couples

Q: What interests do you have besides golf?
A: Photography, classic sports cars and cooking

Q:  How long have you worked with Linda?
  A: About 7 months

Q: What was your favorite golf lesson?
A: I enjoy the playing lessons. It was a "bonus weather day" in November when all the pieces that we had been working on seemed to come together at the same time.

Q: Why do you take lessons from Linda?
A: I have taken lessons with other Golf Professionals and have learned a lot, but I was never really able to progress beyond a point. Linda loves teaching and it shows. She determined my style of learning and presented the concepts in a way that I could easily grasp. She is always looking for feedback... "now tell me, how did I get that across to you?"  she will say. She is unwilling to give up until she gets the concept across.

I never had the "feel" of the swing before. Thanks to Linda's patience and effort I can now feel it for the first time.

It's a pleasure to learn from someone who loves what they teach. Thank you Linda!
