Student of the Month takes on new
meaning with
Judy Sayles as she has devoted the last "10 months" to revamping
her golf swing.
An accomplished player, the last few
years have found Judy with little or no time to commit to playing
golf. Her athletic swing produced good results when practicing and
playing frequently however the swing did not hold up in the new
situation she found herself in.
It is at this point that I had the
pleasure of joining up with Judy on her road to improvement. Her
dedication to practice and perfection is unmatched to any student
that I have worked with. She is willing to work on something until
it is ingrained in her muscle memory and has the confidence to trust
it on the golf course.
Speaking of which, I had to coerce
Judy to take her game back out on the course as she was settling
into becoming a "range rat"! She met the challenge with wonderful
results and both of us felt that all of our hard work was beginning
to bear fruit. You see, when a student is at the level that Judy is
at, progress is measured in ways much different from beginners.
Confidence to execute the new swing plays a big part in a player's
psyche and she must trust that all of the hard work is paying off.
Judy is continuing to work on her
game throughout this winter, meeting with me on a regular basis. Her
dedication and commitment are evident but it is her trust and
confidence in me to take her to the next level that I am most proud
of. She is a pleasure to teach and it is her wonderful attitude that
has earned her this month's student of the month. Congratulations
Judy! |

Elisabeth W.
|
From Linda:
"Elisabeth is an exceptional young
woman. I began instructing her at the age of 5 and by the end of our
hour I knew that I had experienced something special. Her attention
span was above average for her age and her athleticism was
impressive. When instructing young students, it is important to keep
it "fun" as well as a positive learning environment. Elisabeth and I
have accomplished that in our lessons. She arrives at each lesson
with an infectious smile and a true interest in learning new things.
She is not afraid to ask questions and is willing to work hard to
get better. |
|
The reason Elisabeth has
been chosen as student of the month is that this year she has
surpassed so many of our goals. She has grown into her golf swing
and is fearless in her play. She understands the game and enjoys
being on the golf course playing with friends and family. Many times
this summer I have seen her working on her golf swing at the driving
range, and she dedicated a half day to her short game by attending
one of our golf schools. As the youngest attendee, she held her own
with the adults and maintained a piqued interest throughout the day.
I was truly impressed!
Elisabeth continues to prove herself a good player, but most
importantly she is a quality young adult. Her personality is
delightful and she exhibits qualities of a person much older than
she is. She is a pleasure to have as a student and I look forward to
helping her achieve her goals in golf and in life. Congratulations
Elisabeth!!!"

Kathryn Nickerson
From Linda:
"Kathryn's dedication to golf and instruction took
on new meaning when she showed up for her weekly lesson in a cast a
few weeks ago!!! Her early season misfortune was taking a toll on
this golfer and she couldn't stay away any longer. It was bad enough
that she couldn't play golf but she missed her golf lessons
terribly.
As her instructor I had always sensed that her
commitment to learning and playing this game was special, but this
truly caught my attention so much so that I am naming her May's
student of the month.
Kathryn works hard at her game and takes her
lessons very seriously. It is often that I look over at the range
and see her practicing something that we have worked on in the
lesson (every teacher's dream) and she is constantly working to
improve her skills. Though time spent with her sick mother does not
leave much room for golf, Kathryn hones her game through lessons and
practice, just looking forward to a time when she can make a
stronger commitment to the game.

Kathryn's golf swing is solid, and pound for
pound she gets maximum power into her swing. With continued work on
her back swing and getting consistent playing time, I expect her
confidence to grow and for her to achieve all of her goals and
expectations she has set for herself in golf.
Congratulations Kathryn! " |

From Linda:
"Winter in Syracuse challenges every
golfer to maintain their golf swing and to keep their connection to
the game that they love. Some students will swing a club indoors,
while the more commited student may hit balls into a net, or even
take a lesson! Imagine a student that takes a vacation and
sets up instruction with her teacher while she's there!
It is that commitment that has
landed Laurie as February's student of the month. We hooked up just
recently with Laurie and her husband Don in Port St. Lucie, for two
days of golf instruction and a few rounds of golf at the PGA Golf
Club. Laurie has commited herself to her game through instruction,
hard work, and a new schedule that provides lots of time to play.
She continues to challenge herself by setting new goals to improve
her game, and has been able to achieve many of the goals that she
has set throughout the last year. Her short game has made the
difference in her game of late and she realized the direct
relationship between a good short game and lower scores.
Laurie is every teacher's dream with
her willingness to work on the complete package with instruction,
practice, and a dedication to both her full swing and short game.
And what could possibly be better than traveling to Florida in the
off season to work on her game with her instructor?????
Congratulations Laurie."

Gary Mazurkowitz
"Gary came to me for lessons for a
very specific reason. He had grooved a swing that was severely
outside/in (also known as coming over the top), and frankly was not
enjoying himself on the golf course. He has been selected as Student
of the Month because through a lot of hard work he has been able to
go from a student that lacked confidence on the course, to one that
can now hold his own.
Gary is a work in progress and
exhibits a great understanding of the golf swing. He is open minded
and is willing to work hard to achieve the necessary swing changes.
The process is a journey and oftentimes students grown impatient and
go back to old habits. Gary's willingness to work hard and accept
the setbacks makes him an exceptional student. He continues to see
the big picture and has an understanding of the "process" to
achieving his goals . This vision only helps him to live up to his
potential as a player.
Gary is a pleasure to have as a
student and I'm not sure at this point who enjoys his achievements
more!!!"

Kitty Canale
"Kitty was selected as student of the month
purely on the fact that she set goals for herself and achieved
them!!!
Oftentimes we lose track of where we are and where we're heading in
golf, but with both short and long term goals we can measure our
accomplishments much better. Last year Kitty set goals for herself
and gave herself a course of action to achieve those goals and in my
opinion she has accomplished what she set out to do this year.
I'm sure that she would agree that the bar
will become higher for next year, but she has a lot to be proud of
this season.

Joanne Barry
"Joanne was chosen due to her
success this year with her game. She joined a private club (Drumlins
East ) for the first time with her husband, and with this commitment
she dove in to the life of a member. This means playing as much as
her job would allow. Not a fair weather player at all, she is known
to show up in rain, wind, or even a 90+ degree day. She wasn't
afraid to participate in all forms of competition from the business
woman's league, various member events and most impressively a local
PGA event with me!!!!! Her game withstood the pressures and nerves
and this success gave her a confidence to really post some pretty
low scores. Her handicap came down and she had a turning point with
believing that she can compete and not panic if she has an
occasional bad round. She continued with the lessons and, with no
crisis in her game, we were able to explore long term goals with
both her swing and with her game. She is upbeat, optimistic , and a
pleasure to teach and spend time with on the golf course. I am truly
proud of her and look forward to her future accomplishments."

Jim Messenger
"Jim is every teacher's dream.
As a crossover athlete from tennis, and brand new to the game of
golf, Jim immerses himself in learning his new sport. He
understands the importance of instruction from the beginning, and
has proved his commitment by joining a club and practicing and
playing on a regular basis, accelerating his progress. It's so
much fun to see someone get bitten by the golf bug. With
continued practice and playing time, Jim will soon be a very
accomplished player!"
