Train for the Plane!
 |
| The swing is a sequence of
motion, so oftentimes we find that when things go wrong early in the sequence it
accentuates problems throughout the golf swing.
The TAKE AWAY is an important
step to creating a good motion in the swing. As you swing, it’s important that
both the arm and club match the toe line of your body. |

|
The first photo shows you a
common problem that students bring to the lesson tee. As you can see here, the
club is “off plane” and what we refer to as “too inside” to make the proper
shape in the golf swing. Students who make this type of move in the take away
will more likely have the club extremely off plane at the top of the swing
causing many compensating moves before they begin the downswing. Too much
compensating can result in inconsistency with direction and compromise of
contact with the golf ball. |
|
The second photo shows the
correct shape of the golf swing on the take away. Instructors look for the club
and left arm to parallel the feet, as you see in the photo, and find that the
percentages of keeping the club “on plane” or in position at the top of the back
swing become greatly improved.

A
good practice drill is for
you to lay a golf club across your feet extending out towards your back swing
and make practice swings checking your arm AND THE CLUB, to be sure they are
parallel to the club on the ground. In no time you should see improved results
in direction and more solid contact with the golf ball.
Good practice is important to
improved results on the golf course. Good luck! |
